Daily Learning Objective:  I can make connections between historical events and their representations in literature. 
Standards:  
  • LAFS.6.SL.1.1 Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 6 topics, texts, and issues, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly. 
  • LAFS.6.L.1.2 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.  ​
​​Unit: Number The Stars
Warm-up: Students will answer questions on the NTS Intro Survey. We will review review the results as a class and discuss what it means to have courage or bravery.
Practice:  We will begin our Number The Stars Unit today with an Introduction of WWII and The Holocaust .
Apply:  Students will work in partners to complete the Denmark Mapquest using Google Earth/Maps/Search.

Diagnostic: Classroom Cereal Grammar Assessment (pg.9-10)
*If finished early: Silent Reading

Homework: Read GBC novel for 30-60 minutes.

Daily Learning Objective: I will be able to work collaboratively to conduct research and discover historical information. 
​Unit: Number the Stars
Standards: ​
  • LAFS.6.RI.1.1 Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. 
  • LAFS.6.RI.1.2 Determine a central idea of a text and how it is conveyed through particular details; provide a summary of the text distinct from personal opinions or judgments. 
  • LAFS.6.RI.1.3 Analyze in detail how a key individual, event, or idea is introduced, illustrated, and elaborated in a text (e.g., through examples or anecdotes).​
Warm-Up: Students will complete a journal entry about what it means to have courage. 
Practice: Students will conduct research on Denmark during WWII. 
Apply: Students will work in teams to complete a Digital Escape Room on the history of Denmark during WWII. 
*If finished early: Silent reading or work on Flipgrid.
